After graduating from school in Newcastle, Matt decided to live out his childhood dream of moving to Africa and moved to Uganda to volunteer for a year with East African Playgrounds. In that time he climbed all three Virunga volcanoes and visited all the country’s great parks; from walking with chimpanzees in Budongo Forest to seeing the youngest gorilla baby ever born in Bwindi Impenetrable forest, he managed to tick off every region of the country.

Matt then went on to work with Modisa Wildlife Project in Botswana where he taught children English, took university volunteers up to see mountain gorilla and accompanied on game captures and vulture-nesting studies. He fell in love with the unadulterated wilderness of Botswana and has since returned several times to help on friends’ game farms and explore the continent.

Matt has recently been recruited by USAID to travel to South Africa and conduct seminars for local prosecutors on modern and proper techniques for investigating rape allegations. This is a very important and high profile assignment.
